Clapham Park Development Share this post Home » Regeneration » The Vision The Vision The regeneration of Clapham Park is more than just building new homes. For Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing it’s a feeling of duty and responsibility to provide a safe, dry and warm home within an inclusive community — a place that’s filled with green areas to relax and enjoy, new spaces to work and shop; a place where people are able to live well and are proud to call home. The Clapham Park vision sets out our key commitments to residents and the community for the next 15 years and beyond. These include: A new or refurbished home to every secure tenant A minimum of 4.18 hectares of high quality open public space, including a 300 metre long linear park At least 50% affordable homes Safe streets, pedestrian and cycle routes A range of new shops and much improved community facilities It’s a journey we’ve been on since 2005, when the residents of Clapham Park voted to transfer their landlord from Lambeth Council to Clapham Park Homes, part of Metropolitan. To date, nearly 1,500 new and refurbished homes have been delivered for existing tenants and leaseholders, with new families also welcomed to Clapham Park. In December 2019, planning permission was granted to progress with the next stages of development. This will see over 2,500 new homes built for existing tenants, as well as homes for shared ownership and sale. Further still, with all homes built tenure blind, quality is never compromised. Green open spaces are a key part of the Clapham Park vision, so much so that 4.18 hectares of land will be dedicated to high quality open public space. These spaces are designed to cultivate the human experience and are underpinned by a strong sense of community, where local people can come together to stop, meet and enjoy their surroundings. . A new market square and retail premises will also aid the Clapham Park community, providing opportunities for start-ups, local businesses and high street names. Public art will be woven into the design and development of the Clapham Park landscape, with art celebrating the richness, vibrancy and heritage of the local area. This will enhance and engage the community while bringing a cultural experience to the doorstep. The new community facility, The Clapham Park Cube is an aspirational community space, co-designed by residents that offers space to come together, learn and enjoy. Alongside the physical development of Clapham Park, activities that support local people into achieving their potential will define how the regeneration is measured. The creation of opportunities for local people to gain access to skills and qualifications, as well as employment across a variety sectors will be central to what we do. Our contractors at Kind and Co are currently building 50 new affordable rented homes (and 2 new shops) on Kings Avenue, which are due to complete in 2023. Over the next 15 years of development, we will be working with the Clapham Park Community, Lambeth Council and other partners to achieve our vision and provide a place you are proud to call home.
