The research, led by independent social research organisation Social Life, was commissioned as part of our commitment to ensure that the regeneration at Clapham Park is guided by the voices and experiences of local people. Over nine months, six local residents were trained and employed as Community Researchers to co-design the resident survey, conduct street interviews with their neighbours, and help interpret the findings. The result is a comprehensive, community-led assessment of resident’s attitudes to life in Clapham Park today. The findings show that the estate has many strengths: 72 per cent of residents are satisfied with the area, and neighbourliness and a sense of belonging is stronger than in comparable neighbourhoods. While the regeneration is viewed positively by many, the research also highlights key priorities for residents, including improving safety, access to facilities, and improving relationships between people from different backgrounds. The research sets out clear recommendations to support a safer, more inclusive and better-connected community. This includes investment in youth provision, improved communication with residents, and better use of green and public spaces. The findings will inform our work as we continue to deliver on the Clapham Park Vision, which includes building over 3,200 new homes by the late 2030s, creating over four hectares of green space and creating a new commercial hub with shops and other amenities. We’re planning a community facing event in the autumn to share the report and it’s findings with you. We’ll share further details soon.
